La Casona

The historic hacienda is a museum that chronicles the incredible story of Santa Rosa. Once one of the largest haciendas in the country, the site is most famously known for the battle that took place in 1856 between the Costa Rican Government and Nicaraguan forces. The Casona is also an incredible place to watch the sunset!

El Monumento

Just behind La Casona is a staircase leading up to a monument dedicated to the soldiers who fought in the battles of Santa Rosa. Rising above the canopy, the monument offers views of three volcanos in the distance and the expansive forest below. If you are lucky, you may see the capuchins feeding on figs near the top!

Senderos Universal & Natural

Sendero Universal is a 550 meter paved path that winds through the forest. From this path, you can access Sendero Natural which includes an additional 580 meters of gravel walkways. These trails give tourists of all abilities access to the forest and still allow for the possibility of viewing an immense diversity of wildlife, including tapir, ocelots, monkeys, and countless birds and amphibians.

Playa Naranjo

Playa Naranjo is a very secluded beach within Santa Rosa. The beach is famous for its surfing, sea turtles, and jaguars! Playa Naranjo is 12km from the administration building down a very steep, rough road. This beach is only recommended for those with 4X4 cars.

Outside of Sector Santa Rosa

Beaches & Swimming

Playa Rajada: about 50 min (43km) from the entrance to Santa Rosa entrance and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Although popular with the locals, there is seldom very many people here (Google maps location)

Playa Junquillal: about 25 min (25km) from the Santa Rosa entrance. This small, isolated beach is part of the Área de Conservación Guanacaste and costs ~$13 to enter. (Google maps location)

Poza Los Coyotes: Incredible natural pools just 15 min north of Liberia. Here you will find refreshing turquoise waters and cliff jumping! ~$4 to enter. (Google maps location)

Restaurants

Palermo- Website Located in Liberia, Palermo serves a large variety of typical Costa Rican food. A great option for those with kids.

El Pilon- Website Located in Liberia, El Pilon serves delicious, very typical Costa Rican food.
